Portion control is one of the fastest ways to lose weight without calorie counting. It’s not about eating less. It’s about serving smarter, especially with calorie-dense foods (oil, rice, pasta, plantain, bread).
Most portion guides are based on Western-style meals: “Protein here, veg here, carbs here”… neatly separated.
With African and Caribbean meals, things are often mixed: Soups. Stews. Curries. Rice + sauce. Swallows. And the fats/oils are usually inside the meal.
Rule of thirds: – 1/3 Protein (meat, fish, eggs) – 1/3 Carbs/starches (rice, yam, pasta, swallow, potato) – 1/3 Veg or salad
